Luxury gadgets: six of the best

Matt Warman takes a brief look at just six of the many superluxury gadgets on Harrods' new technology section

At 152", Panasonic’s television costs £600,000, weighs 600kg, and uses 4K2K technology that has four times as many pixels as a conventional high definition TV set. It even creates a separate 3D image in HD for each eye.
The screen is the same size as nine 50” displays stacked in three rows, featuring a 4096 x 2160 resolution. Unsurprisingly, the TH-152UX1W is ordinarily sold as a professional display.
The 11’ iPad dock
£300,000
Harrods new department will also sell a £300,000 Jean Michel Jarre iPad dock, although the 11' unit is so large it will not fit in the technology department. The AeroDream One is supplied with its own ladder and custom-made to order. It’s unclear why the unit is actually so tall, but the sound is as immense as the price tag.

FujiFilm’s Globetrotter collaboration
£5,695

Produced in a limited edition of just 12 sets and exclusive to Harrods, FujiFilm’s X-Pro1 camera comes in a case produced by Globetrotter, the luggage makers who supplied the Queen with luggage for her honeymoon. David Bland, of FujiFilm, is right to say dryly: “We are certain that the striking cases will appeal to Harrods’ customers.” The camera inside, however, is a superb new model too.
Ferrari’s Hasselblad camera
£23,999

Just 599 of these limited edition cameras will be produced in Ferrari's unique colour, "rosso fuoco". But the money in truth goes on Hasselblad’s peerless camera technology, rather than on the racing shield. It’s telling, however, that the handmade, double-decker case the camera comes in is described as “ideal for both storage and display”. Swedish-based Hasselblad’s cameras are medium format, and were used to take photos of Nasa’s moon landings.
Loewe Connect TV
From £1,395

Loewe’s television is a great screen, offers both 2D and 3D and includes a hard disk on some models so you can record and download programmes. Perhaps its biggest selling point, however, is the striking design and the interchangeable colours. The 32”, 40” and 46” sets come in different colours themselves, but can also be augmented with extra, contrasting plastic surrounds. Wouldn’t it be awful to have an unfashionably coloured television…
Focal Grande Utopia EM Speakers
£121,999

Custom built to the colour you want, the Focal Grande Utopia EM are sometimes lauded as the world’s best. Standing at 6’ 7” tall, they can cope with amplifiers offering up to 1,500 watts per channel. Of course, they’re available in shades to match your car. Which means you can get Lamborghini Orange, Ferrari Red, Porsche Silver, Bentley Obsidian Black, AMG Mercedes Chocolate Metallic.
