Splash Your HTC Desire

Splash Your HTC Desire
Aren’t you already bored with your HTC Desire’s stock splash screen, which says “HTC” in big, bold letters? Why don’t you try uploading one of your own images there?

A splash image is the first image that you see on your HTC Desire’s screen the moment you turn it on. This image can be modified with custom images either downloaded from the Internet or you can make one yourself. The only requirement here is that of a simple image editor such as MSPaint or GIMP, and a utility to upload the image to the phone. Create your image, photo or picture, set the resolution as 480 x 800 (the actual screen size of the HTC Desire’s display) and save it as a 24-bit BMP (Bitmap) file. Note: No other resolution will work here—so make sure you stick to these specifications. Alternatively, you can download a few readymade images made by many HTC Desire users and shared on the forum at ‘http://t.in.com/aeFI’. You could also download some more from ‘http://t.in.com/deCw’ listed on the ‘http://ppckitchen.org/’ website. Once you are done with downloading the image, save it to the desktop.

Now that you are ready with your image, all you need is a method to upload the file and Android Flasher is the easiest and best utility to do so. Download Android Flasher version 1.8.0 from ‘http://t.in.com/1eD2’. It is a self executing utility and does not need any installation. Make sure you have the HTC Desire powered on with the Android OS running and USB Debugging enabled from the settings and plug it to the PC’s USB port. Start the Android Flasher utility. Now check the ‘Splash’ box on the Android Flasher utility and click on the ‘Begin’ icon. The next window will ask you to select the BMP file for the image. Select the splash file you prepared and saved earlier on the desktop and click the ‘Open’ window. Once done, the utility will pop up the image in a window to ask you to confirm the splash image. Confirm and click ‘Yes’ and the utility will start the flashing process. Your phone will reboot automatically and the new splash image will be seen on the screen

A unique splash image idea would be to insert your own photo with your personal details of your phone number and address. This way you can highlight your personal details in case your phone is lost or stolen. Presently, this workshop works with HTC phones (not all models) only.
