Home button on Samsung Galaxy S III rumoured to be staying put

Rumours surrounding the upcoming flagship handset from Samsung have been doing the rounds quite often lately and they had begun surfacing since the end of 2011. At that time, there were a lot of expectations regarding the launch of the upcoming flagship handset from Samsung, the Galaxy S III; and it was believed that it would be launched at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona; that however was not to be. Just prior to the event, Samsung announced that the handset would not be making an appearance at the event, but would launch at a later date, instead. The last rumour to have surfaced about this highly anticipated smartphone was that of a partial image portraying the design of the handset showing up. Along with the render of this handset, there was a caption stating, ‘New Generation Coming', along with a launch date. Besides this picture, there was nothing else really to go by. However, a new report by South Korean newspaper, Korean Digital Daily has parted with some more insight on what to expect from the Samsung Galaxy S III.

Is this what the S III will look like?
Home button coming once more

As per the report, the design of the next generation smartphone from the Galaxy S series has been finalized and it will maintain the home button that is located below the display. There were rumours in the past stating that since the device’s functionality is based on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the brand would remove this button. Apart from the physical button being present, the report goes on to state that the user interface will feature a five column design, much like the Samsung Galaxy Note, instead of the four columns found on the Galaxy Nexus. This would be a good move by Samsung as the user interface of other Android devices as well as the iPhone feature a four column design.

As far as the specifications of the handset go, the rumours indicate that it will feature:
  • Quad-core processor and on chip LTE
  • 4.8-inch AMOLED Plus Display with 16:9 Aspect ratio and an HD resolution (possibly 720p but could be higher)
  • 3G, Wi-Fi with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct (Possibly)
  • 12 megapixel camera
  • Wireless charging
  • MHL for AV out

As for the launch of the device, there is still no official word on it, except for the leaked image. Let us know your reactions regarding the Samsung Galaxy S III and when do you think the brand will unveil it? For all the rumours on the Galaxy S III, click here.
