In mid-April, Kronos will be upgraded to version 6.3. Individuals who use Kronos have received an announcement about the upgrade, and will receive reminders in April. Key points for IT staff to know:
1) Timing for the Kronos upgrade:
The exact start and end times are still being determined. Currently, the start date is planned for Thursday, April 19, and the upgrade is expected to take a few days.
2) New login screen:
In most ways, the upgraded Kronos (6.3) is very much like the current version (6.1). The most noticeable difference will be a redesigned login screen, which will make it easier for people to choose the right login option for them.
3) Emphasis on using the “basic” (HTML) version of Kronos whenever possible:
Students and nonexempt staff will be encouraged to use the basic (HTML) version of Kronos. It provides almost everything they need to do with their timecard, and can be used from any computer. Supervisors can also do most of their tasks in this version. The Kronos documentation and other materials are being updated to provide more details about the basic version.
One task that cannot be done with the basic version is correcting previous timecards (historical edits). The “full” (Java) version is required for this task. Generally speaking, students and nonexempt staff will be advised to ask their supervisor to make historical edits on their behalf. However, specific departments may choose a different path, such as equipping students and nonexempt staff to use the full version, or setting up a computer kiosk for this purpose.
4) Computer requirements for the “full” (Java) version of Kronos:
Pay reps will still need the full (Java) version of Kronos. Supervisors will also need the full version occasionally or frequently, depending on their situation. Computer requirements for the full version after the upgrade:
5) Support:
The CIT HelpDesk is now providing both functional and technical support for Kronos. This change has already happened.
