Priyanka has no male co-stars?

Earlier this week, Karan Johar lambasted a certain Bollywood actress for "using hired PR machinery and hiding behind so- called friends get news into tabloids", terming the antic as "nothing but spineless and lame". K. Jo did not specify names, but his tweet uncannily came the same day that a Mumbai- based tabloid carried a fullpage story minus byline suggesting that women insecure about their superstar husbands should sort out troubles at home and not attack Priyanka Chopra.

The reference in the tabloid report was Gauri Khan, of course. After the news wildly spread over the past few months that SRK and PC had gotten too cosy for comfort on the sets of Don 2 , Shah Rukh's wife Gauri is rumoured to have asked the actor's friend circle - which very much comprises one of Bollywood's two most powerful camps - to boycott Priyanka from their company on and off the screen.
When Priyanka's name went missing from the guest list at a recent party at SRK's bungalow, Mannat, the signal was clear.

K. Jo, sworn loyalist of SRK, was obviously panning Priyanka in his tweet for using her PR machinery to get the story plugged in the Mumbai tabloid, in a bid to clear her name.

Priyanka's situation seems all the more precarious at the moment if you consider she had already snapped ties with Bollywood's other powerful camp - one helmed by Salman Khan - a while back.

Lately, she has been going all out to mend fences with Salman. At the Ambanis' recent grand bash to celebrate Sachin Tendulkar's 100th ton, Priyanka and Salman were seen formally greeting each other. The power set present couldn't resist a sideways glance when Piggy Chops and Sallu came face to face. The two stars have, after all, been openly hostile for some time.

Ironically, K. Jo finds mention in the Priyanka- Salman back story, too. She had snubbed Salman on Karan's chat show a while back saying she prefers to call him "Mr Khan", meaning she doesn't maintain first- name terms with the superstar. Salman on his part is said to have made it amply clear that anyone who wants to work with him should not utter the Pname in his presence.

The fallout, it is said, happened because Priyanka refused to work Salman's Main Aurr Mrs Khanna after the actor had allegedly worked the ropes to have rumoured ex- girlfriend Katrina Kaif replace her in Namaste London before that.

A possible patch- up with Salman now seems like the only way out for Priyanka. Times have changed since the K. Jo show, SRK is no longer a friend, and Salman has emerged as Bollywood's most powerful man of the hour. Worse, despite being among the top lot of actresses, Priyanka strangely seems to have run out of male co- stars.

Hrithik Roshan has the Krrish sequel coming up with her.

Hrithik however is known to be a close buddy of SRK, their wives - Gauri and Susanne - are like family.
The trade doubts if Hrithik will ever sign a new film with Priyanka.

The better half's diktat works for Akshay Kumar, too. No sooner did rumours of a torrid affair brewing between Akshay and Priyanka sprout years ago, wife Twinkle is said to have told Akki to stay away from the actress. Akshay has never signed a film with Priyanka since 2005, when they worked together in Waqt . Ranbir Kapoor remains a viable option but he already has Anurag Basu's Barfi coming up with Priyanka.

Knowing Ranbir's choosy ways, it could be a long time before he agrees to sign another film with the talented actress.

Priyanka has worked with Ajay Devgn just once so far - in the 2005 dud, Blackmail . They were scheduled to co- star in another film but the project never took off. Both stars have been known to consider the other responsible for the film being shelved. They have maintained professional distance since then.

For Priyanka, it doesn't help either that Bollywood's fourth Khan, Saif, won't work with her. The reason is obvious: Priyanka and Kareena Kapoor, Saif's girlfriend, are rivals for the top spot and have never really been the best of friends.

Which leaves Aamir Khan, of course. Knowing Aamir's tendency of doing one film at a time and often taking years to announce a new project, Priyanka's wait for an offer opposite the perfectionist Khan could be an interminable one.

The situation is ironic if you consider Priyanka has traditionally been one of the smoothest operators in Bollywood, her PR skills considered exemplary.

"Bollywood is a male- dominated industry. Producers, directors as well as the trade are guided by what the top male stars want. Priyanka's problem is she has distanced herself from both Salman and Shah Rukh, the two actors who primarily call the shots. She seems to have goofed up with her PR in a big way,"says a top producer.

HER bids to be friendly with Salman - with whom she has worked in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi , God Tussi Great Ho and Salaam- e- Ishq - all over again isn't clearly working, either. A producer recently approached Salman with a script for the two stars. Salman is said to have categorically refused, though Priyanka was ready to sign the film if the superstar agreed to work with her.

Priyanka's next release is Kunal Kohli's Teri Meri Kahaani , where she stars opposite rumoured exboyfriend Shahid Kapoor. Although the two actors reportedly had a stormy break- up, it is understandable why Shahid agreed to do a film with Priyanka. Reeling under the Mausam disaster, he cannot afford to be choosy about co- stars.

Meanwhile, the mending spree is on for Priyanka. Greeting Salman at the Sachin bash isn't a one- off case. Lately, Priyanka has seen sharing friendly vibes with Kangna Ranaut, Katrina Kaif, and Kareena Kapoor. She has declared she would love to work with Saif soon and was seen chatting up Aamir Khan on the sets of his upcoming TV show over tea.

Unless all of it translates to plum offers, Priyanka could find herself elbowed out of the top lot of actresses, though.
"Producers, directors and the trade are guided by what the top male stars want. Priyanka's problem is she has distanced herself from both Salman and Shah Rukh Khan."
