Telecom will launch the HTC One X and the HTC One V on 26 April. The HTC One X is the first quad-core smartphone announced for New Zealand.

Both devices will run the latest version of Google's Android operating system, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Telecom's chief marketing officer, Jason Paris, heralded the power of the new devices.

"The devices enable multimedia power and fast web browsing on a crisp HD display," he said.

Along with its 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, the HTC One X packs a host of high-end specifications, including a 4.7-inch, 720 x 1280 pixel screen, an 8MP camera, and 1080p video recording.

The phone has 1GB RAM and 32GB on-board storage, but has no SD card slot.

The HTC One V is a smaller, lower-spec device, with a 3.7in screen with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution.

It has a 1GHz, single-core CPU and 512MB RAM. Its 5MP camera can record video in 720p.

The device will sell for less than the One X. Telecom has not yet announced RRPs, but said the One X will be free on a $100 24-month plan and the One V will be free on a $60 24-month plan.

Pre-orders will be available online on Telecom's website from 10 April.
